UN´s sustainable development goals

We are committed to the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDG)

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals are a central part of the Agenda 2030 program, which was adopted in September 2015. The program aims to eliminate extreme poverty and promote sustainable development which considers the environment, economy, and human well-being on an equally. The guiding principle of the program states that no one should be left behind in development.

UN has totally 17 sustainable development goals and 169 sub-goals. The goals are universal and binding for both poor and rich countries. The goal guides the global development toward a path where human well-being and human rights, economic prosperity, and social stability are secured in an environmentally sustainable manner. Additionally, the aim is to eliminate extreme poverty globally in all its forms.

These goals are crucial, and they are closely interconnected: no goal can be achieved at the expense of another. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires the participation of governments, decision-makers, and citizens. Businesses plays a significant role in achieving the goals. Companies can influence how people and the environment are treated, as well as how wealth is distributed in society.

We in Hämeenaho have identified 7 key goals that we can contribute to in our business and promote sustainable development. This positive impact is a step toward a better future for all of us. We have highlighted the following UN Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing

Every employee has the right to a healthy work environment where accidents do not occur. We invest in work clothing, equipment, and protective gear, and continuously work to improve occupational safety. Ensuring safe and healthy workplaces is essential for the well-being of employees and the overall success of organizations. Supporting the diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities of our employees is essential for us. We have zero tolerance for any form of discrimination, and we actively strive to create an inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued. We also require our suppliers to respect human rights and combat discrimination. Creating an inclusive workplace that values diversity benefits both employees and the organization.

SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

We have significant role in many infra-construction projects of wind power farms. Wind power plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning toward a more environmentally friendly energy mix. We are aiming to promote cleaner energy sources and actively investing in the renewable energy. We continuously strive to increase the use of renewable fuels, as well as use of low-emission equipment and machines.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

We focus on safety and support people in achieving peak performance. We believe that creating a healthy and safe work environment, respecting human rights, and providing a fair, diverse, and inclusive workplace are crucial for advancing responsibility throughout our value chain. We strive to enhance productivity through innovation, protect employees’ rights, and promote safe work environments for all workers, including youth employment. Ensuring safety, well-being, and equal opportunities for all employees is essential for sustainable business practices.

SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

We invest in high-quality, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure which supports economic development and human well-being. Our goal is to optimize utilization of resources and promote the adoption of clean and environmentally friendly technologies and industrial processes. Additionally, we encourage our employees on innovation and actively participate in research and development. All our investments pave the way toward a responsible society. We use BAT to reduce emissions and optimize resource efficiency. Creating robust and sustainable infrastructure is crucial for societal progress.

SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production

We invest in resource efficiency, and we aim to reduce the use of raw materials and natural resources through a circular economy approach. Sustainable development is an essential part of our work, and our goal is to use natural resources efficiently. Additionally, we aim to reduce the use of chemicals throughout their life cycle, as well as emissions into the air, water, and soil. Responsible chemical use plays a central role in ensuring work and product safety. We also strive to prevent waste generation and reduce it through recycling and reuse.

SDG 13 – Climate Action

We have set clear goals for reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, and our aim is to be completely carbon dioxide-free by 2050. Especially in the procurement of machinery and vehicles, we emphasize low emission machinery. Additionally, we increasingly use biofuels or other non-fossil fuel solutions. Reducing carbon emissions is crucial for mitigating climate change and achieving a sustainable future.

SDG 15 – Life on Land

We are committed to reduce the environmental impact of our operations on water ecosystems and soil, as well as promoting biodiversity. Conservation of biodiversity is one of our strategic sustainability goals. We are using sustainable land-use practices, which ensure that quarrying and sand extraction do not harm natural habitats. We are dedicated to restoring terrestrial ecosystems and promote sustainable use of ecosystems.
